800,000 LSD bottles, 10 Luxury Vehicles and $ 3.85 Million in cash and real estate along with $5.2 million worth of cryptocurrency were seized by the authorities according to a Fortune article. The drug trafficking operation was supposedly conducted in over 100 countries and has been going on since 2012. The Spanish Civil Guard and the European law enforcement agency (Europol) collaborated to perform the raid which took place in Spain and Austria. At least eight individuals have been arrested so far. The exact amounts and types of cryptocurrencies that were seized are still not known.
Europol released a statement saying:
“Two of the web pages managed by the organization enjoyed a great reputation, being the most known and exclusive worldwide in this field,”
Cryptocurrencies became a medium of exchange for drug traffickers on the dark web because of its ease of transfer and anonymity. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is dealing with over 130 pending cases of cryptocurrency according to a report by Bloomberg.
